Winter and Spring 2019 Programs
Horsemanship Programs at Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center offer students the opportunity to experience horses and nature while learning horse management and riding skills. Weekly 1.5-hour lessons are divided into two 45-minute segments, EAL (equine assisted learning) and Horsemanship. Eight students divide into two groups of four and alternate between the two segments. Led by qualified instructors and experienced volunteers, three six-week sessions are offered during the 2019 Winter and Spring season.
Our Horsemanship Programs are designed for students age 7 and older.

Pony Pals is our beginner horsemanship program. In a group of up to eight participants, students learn general horse care, grooming and tack, an introduction to horse body language, leading, mounting and dismounting as well as basic communication with the horse while on the ground and in the saddle. This program delivers a unique perspective on the horse-human relationship by teaching the foundations of connection and communication with our equine partners. Groups will be organized by age and skill level.
Barn Buddies is our horsemanship program for those students who are more experienced and have progressed from Pony Pals. This program continues the development of basic skills related to horse care, barn management, unmounted as well as mounted activities. Students develop self-awareness and improved communication and problem-solving skills with their peers as well as their horses. Groups will be organized by age and skill level.
Girl Power teaches empowerment skills to young girls ages 11 – 13 in weekly 1.5 hour classes. In groups of up to 12 participants, students experience a safe, fun and challenging environment to learn more about themselves, relationships with others and the world around them through interactions with our horses. Weekly themes highlight life skills such as: asserting healthy boundaries, managing obstacles and distractions, effective communication, team building and leadership. Prior horse experience is not required for participation in this program.
Horse Sense (ages 14 and up) is our horsemanship program for teens and adults. Our six-week program delivers a unique perspective on the horse-human relationship. Through groundwork and riding, students focus on the horse’s body language to learn how these prey animals naturally move and communicate. This way of teaching goes beyond handling horses and students develop self-awareness, improved communication and problem-solving skills. Some sessions might involve only unmounted activities. Our Horse Sense (Adult Advanced) is designed for students who can walk trot independently. Please contact Rebecca Miller, our Program Director, at email@example.com or call 508-338-7198.
MOUNTED ARCHERY (Juniors and Adults) Mounted archery is a partnership of horse and rider like no other. It is an exciting interaction in which riders experience the thrill of navigating a horse, without reins, through a course, while loading and shooting arrows at a target. This is a class for more experienced riders age 13 and up. For more information, please contact Rebecca Miller, our Program Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 508-338-7198
Program fee is $180 per 6 week session.
Registration for Winter and Spring Sessions opens December 1, 2018. Once we receive registration forms, we will determine class lists based on experience and number of students interested.
